Colonels run win streak to 10 with 6-0 win
The No 10 Centre College women's soccer team won its 10th straight match and remained unbeaten with a 6-0 win over Millsaps College in an SAA contest Friday, Oct. 5 in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels scored twice in the first half. Seniors Amy Hebbeler (Fort Wright, Ky.) and Rachel Brannen (Fort Mitchell, Ky.) notched an unassisted goal each to give them both two goals for the season.
Centre opened up the lead in the second half with a goal by junior Morgan Collins (Utica, Mich.) at the 50:54 mark. The goal was Collins' third of the year, while Hebbeler recorded her second assist of the season.
Freshman Alex Combs (Danville, Ky.) made it 4-0 with her fifth score of 2012 at the 56:08 mark, and freshman Rachel Geil (Lexington, Ky.) scored the final two goals of the match, her first two goals of her collegiate career. Senior Kelsey Lloyd (Newport, Tenn.) and sophomores Annastasia Hicks (Cynthiana, Ky.) and Jocelyn Kantor (Tampa, Fla.) had the assists on Geil's two goals.
Centre controlled the match from start to finish. The Colonels out-shot Millsaps 24-4 and had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Megan Foley (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Holly Hinton (New Palestine, Ind.) combined for the shutout win in goal for Centre.
Next up is another SAA match Sunday, Oct. 7 against Birmingham Southern. Start time is set for 12 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
