BOISE, Idaho. (Oct. 4, 2013) -- Despite a breakaway goal from junior forward Sara Paul in the 76th minute, the University of Wyoming women’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Boise State Friday afternoon at The Boas Soccer Complex in Boise, Idaho. Of the 12 matches Wyoming has played this season, today’s match was the eighth decided by one goal.

In what was UW’s (4-7-1, 1-1-0 MW) second Mountain West contest on the road, the two teams were scoreless until the 24th minute when Boise State’s (7-4-2, 2-1-0 MW) senior midfielder Kay Oehring found an opening from the top of the box and sailed a shot past Wyoming’s junior goalkeeper Alex Boehm to find the back of the net.

The Cowgirls held the Broncos to the one goal lead until the 68th minute when junior midfielder Shannon Schueren, assisted by sophomore forward Anna Popma, chipped the ball over Boehm’s reach to give Boise State the 2-0 lead. Just eight minutes later, Paul then scored the Cowgirls lone goal of the match for her third goal of the season.

“We worked extremely hard for parts of the game,” UW head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “But in the end, we all know it’s going to take a full 90 to get the results we want.”

Wyoming finished with eight shots to 18 for Boise State. While only able to record three shots during the last 45 minutes, UW put up five shots in the first stanza. The Broncos were able to record three corner kicks, all in the second period. The Cowgirls completed the match with one corner kick in each period.

Senior forward Olivia Mohtadi led the Cowgirls with three shots, one on goal. She was followed by Paul with two total shots. Junior defender’s Kristin Howard and Kasey Curtis each added one shot apiece, while freshman forward Anne Hinman also recorded one shot during the match.

In the net, Boehm did all she could to keep Wyoming in the contest, making three saves. Two of those came in the second period. Boehm has now made 46 saves through the first 12 matches of the season.

Boehm, Curtis, junior midfielder Alison Clarke and freshman defender Sammi Dunda all played the full 90 minutes for the Cowgirls. Boehm and Clarke have played every minute this year.

UW will look to rebound on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest at Utah State. The Cowgirls are 3-2-2 all-time against the Aggies and settled for a 1-1 draw last season.
