BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSU Bakersfield earned the program's first victory of the 2012 season Monday night as the Roadrunners defeated Cal State Fullerton 2-1.

CSUB (1-1-3) got on the board first when David Velasquez (R-So., Los Angeles, Calif., Locke HS) scored off a Lucas Dall'Orso (So., Orange County, Calif., JSerra Catholic HS) pass in the 36th minute. Christian Duarte (Fr., Houston, Texas, Clear Springs HS) gave the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead when beat two defenders off a run at the 83:03 mark. Jesse Escalante made it the final 2-1 49 seconds later when he took advantage of a CSUB turnover in the front of the Roadrunner goal.

The teams combined for 37 shots with CSUB holding a 21-16 advantage. CSUB had 10-8 lead in corner kicks. Eric Shannon (Sr., Valencia, Calif., Valencia HS) made nine saves for the Roadrunners. Fullerton fell to 1-5 on the year.

The crowd of 1,352 was the largest to see a regular season match in school history (Division I or Division II). The crowd was the second largest in school history only trailing the crowd of 2,207 that witnessed the first round of the 2011 Division I Men's Soccer Tournament.

"I think this was a big game for both teams and it was great to get the win," said CSUB head coach Simon Tobin. "A win always feels better than a tie. The ties haven't hurt us too much and I think we are right where we need to be. We are an attacking team, but I think what the worrying thing is that while it is still 1-0, they just make one break and it's 1-1 and then the momentum is gone. So although we do love to attack, we have to be a little more careful on that counter attack. They nearly caught us on the break a couple of times, but overall we should have a had a few more goals I think. With Gyasi and Eduardo out, we went to David, who is usually a wide player, but he stuck that goal in well. To be honest, he played very well up top."
