Delaware Drops Opener to Georgeown, 2-0

<p>NEWARK, Del. &ndash; Limited offensive chances by the University of Delaware&nbsp; women&rsquo;s soccer team led to a 2-0 setback to Georgetown in Sunday&nbsp; afternoon&rsquo;s 2012 season opener at Delaware Mini Stadium.&nbsp;</p> <p>Georgetown&rsquo;s Daphne Corboz tallied a first half goal and assisted on a&nbsp; second half tally in the Hoya victory. Georgetown, which opened its&nbsp; season with a 2-0 win over George Washington Friday, improved to 2-0 on&nbsp; the year.&nbsp;</p> <p>Sophomore midfielder Andie Arnold<em><strong> </strong></em>led the Blue Hens (0-1) with four shots.&nbsp; &ldquo;For the first time out I thought we played a really good game,&rdquo; said&nbsp; Delaware head coach Scott Grzenda, who opened his 22nd season at the&nbsp; helm after leading the squad to a 10-7-4 mark and a Colonial Athletic &nbsp;Association Tournament semifinal appearance last fall . &ldquo;You never like&nbsp; a result when it&rsquo;s not in your favor, but the things that we did in&nbsp; practice were put in place in the game, which I thought was wonderful.&rdquo;&nbsp;</p> <p>Corboz punched in Georgetown&rsquo;s first goal on an unassisted play about 20&nbsp; yards out on the right side of the penalty box at the 12:14 mark in the&nbsp; first half.&nbsp;</p> <p>The Hoyas, coming off the best season in school history in 2011 when&nbsp; they went 15-6, &nbsp;added a second goal in the second half at the 67:16&nbsp; mark when Kaitlin Brenn put the ball in the net off Corboz&rsquo;s pass in&nbsp; front of the UD goal.&nbsp;</p> <p>Making her first career start for the Blue Hens, junior Jessica&nbsp; Levy, made three saves.&nbsp;</p> <p>&ldquo;I thought she had a great day,&rdquo; said Grzenda. &ldquo;After her first cross&nbsp; she came out and caught it like a champ and was fine from that point on.&rdquo;&nbsp;</p> <p>Georgetown goalkeeper, Emma Newins, posted her second-straight shutout&nbsp; of the 2012 season as she made three saves in the victory.&nbsp;</p> <p>After being out-shot by the Hoyas in the first half, 6-1, the Blue Hens&nbsp; rallied in the second half by out-shooting Georgetown, 6-2.&nbsp;</p> <p>The Blue Hens will continue their 2012 schedule on Friday, August 31&nbsp; when they face their second straight Big East opponent, Seton Hall&nbsp; University. The match is set to start at 4 p.m. at SHU&rsquo;s Owen T.&nbsp; Carroll&rsquo;s Field.</p>
