LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman Gina DiTaranto scored her first collegiate goal as the University of Delaware woman’s soccer team secured its first win of the 2012 season with a 1-0 shutout victory over Siena College Sunday afternoon at Siena Field.

The Blue Hens (1-2) tallied their first win of the season while the Saints (0-3) remain winless in their non-conference schedule. Delaware outshot Seina, 14-5, en route to the victory.

From 37-feet away, DiTaranto (at right) tallied her first goal of the season by lofting the ball over Siena goalkeeper Taylor Booth’s head. With a helpful assist by Shannon Kearney on the play, the Blue Hens took a 1-0 lead over the Saints at the 37:20 mark of the first half.

Blue Hens goalkeeper Jessica Levy posted her first shutout as the junior faced only one shot on goal. DiTaranto led Delaware with four shots in the win.

Siena’s Booth made three saves for the Saints while in goal. Kelly Ristoff led the Saints’ offense with two of the team’s five shots in the loss.

Delaware will return to action on Friday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. when the Blue Hens travel to Baltimore, Md. to face the Loyola University
Greyhounds and complete the weekend with a trip to Dover, Del. to compete in the Route 1 Rivalry against Delaware State at 1 p.m. on Sept. 9.
