DURHAM, N.C. – Duke scored two goals in a span of 90 seconds late in the second half to shutout the Northeastern men's soccer team (0-1-1) on Sunday afternoon at the John Rennie / Nike Invitational. Dylan Faber got the start in goal for the Huskies for the second straight match, making six saves.

The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the 72nd minute on a goal from Zach Mathers before taking a two-goal advantage on a penalty kick conversion following a red card on Conner Alexander.

While Duke held a substantial 16-5 edge in shots for the match, including an 11-2 advantage in the second half, the Huskies held the Blue Devils to just eight shots on goal. Both teams, meanwhile, generated five corner kick chances apiece.

Following the match, captains Donovan Fayd'Herbe de Maudave and Dante Marini were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Huskies thought they had gotten off to an early start for the second straight game when Northeastern sent a shot past Duke goalkeeper Alex Long (two saves), only to have the goal called back for offsides.

After playing an even first half, the Blue Devils began to take control of the match following intermission. Duke peppered the Huskies with 11 second half shots, and finally took a 1-0 lead in the 72nd minute when Mathers took a feed from Seo-in Kim and finished from 15 yards out.

Less than two minutes later, Duke took a commanding two-goal edge when Alexander was whistled for a red card in the box, setting up Sean Davis to send home a penalty kick with 17 minutes left in regulation.

The Huskies will return home next weekend when Northeastern hosts Fairfield on Saturday at 6 p.m. from Parsons Field.
