Early Goals Doom FAU Women’s Soccer Against Akron
Tampa, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team could not overcome allowing three goals in a 20-minute span of the first half in Sunday’s 4-0 loss to the University of Akron in the USF Tournament in Tampa. The Owls are now 3-3 on the season and return home to face Furman University on Friday, September 16.
Akron’s Ashley Hughes scored two goals in the victory. Her first goal put the Zips on the scoreboard in the 21st minute. The Ohio team took a 2-0 advantage 10 minutes later on a goal from Karina Atkinson, who would provide an assist on Kyarah Foushee’s goal in the 41st minute.
Hughes’ second goal came on a penalty kick goal in the 66th minute.
The Zips outshot FAU 11-7 in the match. Sophomore forward Jesse Shugg led the Owls’ offensive attack with two shots.
