FAU Women’s Soccer Heads to UNLV Tournament

Boca Raton, FL - Florida Atlantic University’s women’s soccer team heads west to Las Vegas to participate in UNLV’s Lady Rebel Classic fresh off its first victory of the 2012 season. The Owls will begin tournament play against Northern Arizona University on Friday, August 31, at 7:30 p.m. before battling UNLV on Sunday, September 2, at 4 p.m.

FAU stands 1-2 on the season and is coming off a 2-1 win over the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on August 25 in FGCU’s Embassy Suites Classic in Fort Myers.

Freshman midfielder Claire Emslie and sophomore defender Olivia MBala were named to the all-tournament team after leading FAU to a victory after dropping the tournament opener.  Emslie scored a goal and added an assist in the win over Wisconsin-Green Bay.  The freshman paces the offensive attack with 10 shots and three points.

Junior midfielder Ellie Smith scored the first goal of the 2012 season off an Emslie left corner kick opportunity.  The score marked the first goal in the career for the Miami native.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Lantes has made 10 saves in net and posted her 11th career victory with the win over Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Northern Arizona enters the weekend at 0-3 and looking to find the back of the net for the first time this fall.  The team dropped a 2-0 decision at UNLV to open the season.  The Lumberjacks also dropped home matches to in-state foes Arizona State University and the University of Arizona.

UNLV stands 1-2-1 on the season and is coming off a 3-0 loss to the University of Kansas on August 26.
