West Hartford, Conn. - Senior Leonardo Fernandes (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute to lead the Stony Brook men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Hartford Saturday night at Al-Marzook Field. Senior Raphael Abreu (New York, N.Y.) also scored for the Seawolves, who moved to 9-3-1 overall and 3-1-0 in America East.

Goal Recaps

• In the 25th minute, Abreu received a ball played into him, moved towards Hawks goalkeeper Viltsu Tuumi and took a point blank shot at him that Tuumi saved but couldn't control. The ball popped out to a Hartford defender, but Abreu anticipated the play and stole it from him and then swatted the ball into the goal, far side.
• In the 63rd minute, Hartford's Anthony Santaga converted a cross from Rohan Roye by heading it in well over senior goalkeeper Stefan Manz (Bronx, N.Y.).
• In the 73rd minute, senior Kyle Schlesinger (Selden, N.Y.) broke up a Hartford attack and played the ball into the midfield. Fernandes then got a hold of the ball on a pass from senior Berian Gobeil Cruz (Montreal, Quebec), took on a pair of defenders, pushed the ball to his left foot and blasted a shot into the net high over Tuumi's head from about 25 yards out.

The Numbers Game

• Stony Brook outshot Hartford 14-11 overall and 8-2 on shots on goal. The Seawolves held Hartford without a shot on goal until the 62nd minute.
• Fernandes recorded his fifth-game winning goal of the season and 12th of his career. He now has 30 goals and 75 points in his career.
• Abreu scored a goal for the second consecutive game and now has 16 for his career.
• Hartford recorded three yellow cards on the night.

• Stony Brook improved to 16-1-1 under Anatol when scoring the game's first goal.
