The Georgia State women’s soccer team suffered its worst loss of the season thus far in a 5-0 loss at Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y., on Sunday.

Previously, Georgia State’s worst loss of the 2012-13 season was a 3-0 loss at Mississippi State on Sept. 2. The last time Georgia State allowed an opponent to score five goals was on Sept. 5, 2010, in 5-1 loss against Georgia.

This was the second loss of the weekend for the Panthers (3-5-1, 0-2 CAA) after losing its conference opener at Northeastern 1-0.

The Panther defense was tested all game long from a barrage of shots from the Pride. Hofstra had 20 shots, 12 on goal, which was the third highest total from a Georgia State opponent this season. Only Auburn and Georgia Southern took more shots.

Georgia State’s offense totaled seven shots, three on goal. Junior Lyndsey Gaffney and sophomores Leah Beasley and Nikki Fedele each took one shot on goal. Gaffney and Fedele also took a team-high two shots in the match.

Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Toler made seven saves, but did allow all five on Hofstra’s goals.

The Panthers will look to rebound with two home matches this upcoming weekend. The Panthers will host Delaware on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Drexel at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the GSU Soccer Complex.
