Alabama State (5-9, 5-3 SWAC) brought the pressure early with five of its fourteen chances coming in the first half. Kayla Tillman scored the first goal of the night in the fifth minute when she received a pass on the right wing from Teaggan Ilela and sent a cross into the box that sailed over the goalkeeper's head and into the top left corner of goal. It was the third goal of the season for Tillman.
"I was pleased with our effort tonight", head coach Jodie Smith said. "We talked about setting the tone early and getting into a flow and that is exactly what happened tonight."
Birgit Rijnders gave the Lady Hornets another goal in the 73rd minute when she broke through a group of UAPB (3-6-2, 3-3-2 SWAC) defenders for her eighth goal of the season.
Kayla Mckenzie-Edmonds provided Alabama State an insurance goal in 89th minute courtesy of Mary Martin Mooneyham's first career assist.
Goalkeeper Gianna Guyot recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
The Lady Hornets continue their home stand on Sunday with a match against Grambling State. Kick off is at 1 pm and the seniors will be honored prior to the contest. Admission is free to all home matches.
