Huskies End Siena’s Storybook Season

November 15, 2015

Siena’s second trip to the NCAA Tournament ended in a 5-0 loss to Connecticut Sunday afternoon at Moronne Stadium on the campus of the University of Connecticut. Stephanie Ribeiro scored twice and added an assist to her day to lead the Huskies. Liz Rogan made six saves in goal for the Saints.

Kirby O’Keefe recorded the lone shot for Siena on the afternoon.

“I thought we came out sharp and had some good possession the first 20-25 minutes,” said Siena head coach Steve Karbowski.”Their first few shots were goals and we were down 2-0. But they fought hard until the end.”

The team won 12 games in 2015, including the programs second MAAC Championship.

“For the seniors, they leave on a high note being in the NCAA Tournament and they set a high standard for the returning players,” said Karbowski.

The Huskies would strike first in the 10th minute when Ribeiro received a pass from

Rachel Hill and she would get UConn the early advantage.

Six minutes later those same two players were involved again but with reversed roles. Ribero found Hill with a pass and she scored her 14th goal of the season.

The Huskies would add one more tally in the first half to enter the intermission with a three goal lead. Kim Urbanek got the pass from Andrea Plucenik, she fired a shot from the outside the box and found the back of the net for her third goal of the season. (22’)

UConn would then add two more insurance goals in the second half. Annie Wickett connected on a blocked shot form Toriana Patterson and Wickett scored first goal of the season (55’). The Huskies final goal of the game came from Ribeiro when she shot the ball from midfield and the ball passed Rogan in the top left corner to put UConn up 5-0.

When asked about the future holds for the program, Karbowski was optimistic.

“We’ve heard a lot from our future recruits that are planning to come in and they are excited so it’s good all the way around.”
