Incoming FGCU Goalkeeper Wins ECNL Title
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Incoming FGCU women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Melissa Weck made the most of her final moments at the club level, winning the ENCL U18 National Championship last week in California. In five matches, Weck posted three shutouts to guide Slammers to a 4-0-1 mark.
Weck allowed just two goals in that span to lead Slammers FC to a National Championship.
Slammers opened the ENCL U18 Finals with a 2-0 win over Dallas Texans June 23 before drawing 1-1 with MVLA the very next day.
Following the minor setback, Weck again guided Slammers to another 2-0 shutout win over FC Stars of Massachusetts. After a day off, Weck was called upon to play hero when Slammers FC and PDA ENCL were tied at one at the end of extra time. The future Eagle made two saves in the penalty shootout to send her side through to the final.
Another solid display from Weck allowed Slammers to claim a 2-0 win over Michigan Hawks for the title.
During her U18 season, Weck recorded 15 shutouts in her preparation for her career in Southwest Florida.
Weck will compete for the starting goalkeeping position following the graduation of Brittany Brown, FGCU's all-time leader in wins and shutouts.
