NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College women's soccer dream dropped its final non-conference game on Wednesday against Stony Brook, 4-0. Head coach Sarah Brady played 19 student-athletes in a final prep and experiment before the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference season.

Stony Brook scored its first goal exactly 23 minutes into the match with Fanny Gotesson netting her first of the season. The score was 1-0 until the 58' when Alyssa Francese knocked home a penalty kick to double the scoreboard. Rachel Florenz scored two insurance goals for the Seawolves in the 82' and 85'. Mari Brenden and Sophie Morell each had one assist.

The Gaels where out shot 15-8 overall and 7-1 in terms of shots on goal. Freshman Emma Havrillastarted the game in net and played the first half. She allowed one goal while making one save. Rookie Kailey Homoky suited up for the final 45 minutes and made two saves.

Freshman Mackenzie Meixner was Iona's strongest offensive component with three shots. She took three free kick chances in the second half, one of which went off the crossbar and another was saved in miraculous fashion.

Junior Ciara Guglielmo had two shots while fellow starters Christine Rebus and Jackie Morriseach had one. Sophomore Katie Benson had Iona's only shot off the bench.

Wednesday's four goals allowed is Iona's most this season.

Iona begins league play on Saturday, Sept. 15 against Niagara at 11 AM. The Gaels are 1-1 against the Purple Eagles with coach Brady at the helm. The Maroon & Gold won in 2016 on senior day.
