MILWAUKEE - Mallory Geurts made 11 saves, but the final shot attempt of the day found the back of the net without Geurts able to make a play on it, sending Iowa State to a 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee women's soccer team in double overtime Sunday afternoon at Engelmann Stadium.
 
Seconds before the winner was scored, Geurts ran off her line to make a brilliant stop against a charging Cyclone player. She was hurt in the collision, with the ball ricocheting to Emily Steil.
 
Steil had the ball in front of a wide open goal, but had her first attempt saved off the line by Cassidy Blanchard. The ball bounced right back to Steil, who sent her second attempt to the far post for the winner at the 106:04 mark.
 
The Panthers (3-3-2) played well defensively all game against a Cyclone team (5-2-0) that started the week at No. 7 in the NSCAA Central Region rankings.
 
Despite totaling 35 combined shots in the contest, regulation did not feature many threatening opportunities for either side. For the Panthers, Maria Stephans sent one just wide in the eighth minute and Aubrey Krahn had her blast from distance saved in the 12^th minute.
 
The teams went back-and-forth all afternoon, settling nothing until the second overtime period. The matchup was nearly ended in the first OT, but Geurts was up to the task on a point-blank attempt by Klasey Medelberg in the 95^th minute.
 
The finish was a tough one for Milwaukee. Geurts made the impressive save to stop the original threat, but the luck of the bounce of the ball was on the side of the Cyclones not just once, but twice, with Steil's first try being sent right back to her without even having to move. With Geurts still out of the play, the final attempt went in easily.
 
Iowa State claimed the shot column, 24-to-11, with a 13-to-5 advantage in shots on goal. The visitors also had five of the eight corner kicks in the match and were whistled for 11 of the 24 fouls.
 
Of the 11 total shots for UWM, Krahn recorded a trio of them and freshman McKaela Schmelzer accounted for a season-high four of them.
