HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 4, 2012 -- Junior Lauren Wilson (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown) scored the game's only goal in overtime to lift James Madison (4-9-0, 2-3-0) to a 1-0 double-overtime win over George Mason (5-8-1, 1-3-1) in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer Thursday evening at University Park.
Senior Katie Menzie (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) set up the winning score, which came 3:57 into the second 10-minute sudden-victory overtime period. Menzie controlled a ball in midfield and sent a pass ahead to Wilson. Wilson dribbled past a defender into the right side of the box and sent a low shot from 16 yards out into the left corner of the goal.
Dukes sophomore goalkeeper Marlee Stynchula (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson), in her first start of the season, made a career-high eight saves to earn her first career shutout.
Quotes from JMU Coach David Lombardo
"(We had) a lot of courage, particularly in the overtime period. The kids fought hard. Katie Menzie, who has a broken nose, had gotten it hit four or five times throughout the course of the game. She had to come out and (she) came back and battled through it."
