Kent State Trips Up Soccer Eagles
KENT, Ohio -- Host Kent State scored twice in each half Sunday and handed the visiting Morehead State soccer team a 4-1 defeat at Zoeller Field.
The Golden Flashes improved to 2-0, while the Eagles dipped to 0-2.
Kent State went up 2-0 in the first half on a header from sophomore forward Stephanie Haugh at 9:57 and a 35-yard strike from senior forward Megan Repas at 41:33. The Eagles cut the deficit in half with less than two minutes to play in the half off a free kick from sophomore defender Kimberly Borys. Borys connected with freshman midfielder Kelsey Gomez who found the back of the net for her first career goal.
The second half saw Kent State strike twice as Jaclyn Dutton found her way into the six-yard box and connected to give the Golden Flashes the 3-1 lead at 67:20. With less than five minutes to play, KSU finished things off when junior midfielder Jessacca Gironda tallied her second goal of the season.
Gomez led MSU with two shots, while three other Eagles had shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Seeman had five saves.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday as they travel to Coral Gables, Fla., to take on Miami at 7 p.m. ET.
