STORRS, Conn. – The Louisville women’s soccer team used a late goal to defeat UConn by a score of 3-2 in American Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Morrone Stadium. Charlyn Corral recorded the game-winner with 6:20 to play in regulation to earn her league-leading 13^th goal of the season. Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.) continued her red-hot play by scoring both of UConn’s goals in her first career multi-goal performance. Rachel Hill (Somersworth, N.H.) assisted on both of Ribeiro’s tallies to add to her team-leading point total (25). The loss drops Connecticut to 10-7-0 on the season and 4-3-0 in conference play. Louisville picks up three more points in the American to improve to 7-1-0 and 11-4-1 overall.

The Cardinals opened the scoring at 18:30 after a long shot 30 yards out by Erin Yenney flew just over the fingertips of Emily Armstrong (Collegeville, Penn.) to give Louisville the early lead. Midway through the frame Louisville looked to increase their lead when Christine Exeter received a ball in close to net and fired a quick shot that Armstrong was able to block for Devin Prendergast (Babylon, N.Y.) to clear.

Ribeiro got going with 9:56 remaining in the first half to tie the game at one apiece. Rachel Hill controlled the ball just outside the right portion of the box and played a slow roller out in front of Ribeiro at the top of the box. The sophomore one-timed a hard shot that flew just under the crossbar to mark her fourth-straight game with a goal.

In the second half, Prendergast continued her solid defense to stave off Exeter in the box and draw a foul to momentarily quell the scoring threat. Her defensive stand opened the door for Ribeiro to give UConn the go-ahead goal at 54:51. Once again, Rachel Hill was able to find Ribeiro in the middle of the box and Ribeiro buried the pass past a scrambling Louisville defense for her second of the game to put the Huskies on top, 2-1.

The Cardinals responded with two unanswered goals in the remaining minutes to earn the win. Charlyn Corral slipped a through ball to Exeter as she snuck behind the UConn defense. Exeter placed a hard, low shot around Armstrong to the right side of the cage to even the score at 2-2. Corral found the back of the net with 6:20 to play on an unassisted effort at the top of the box, evading two Connecticut defenders and firing a low shot that bounced off the inside of the left goalpost and into the net. The Huskies sought desperately to tie the game in the waning minutes of the game but were unable to draw even as time expire and fell by a score of 3-2.

UConn and Louisville finished with fairly even statistics on the score sheet, both racking up 15 shots and earning 3 corner kick opportunities. In the Cardinal’s cage, freshman goalkeeper Paige Brown stopped eight shots and allowed two goals en route to her 11^th win of the season. Emily Armstrong took the loss in goal for the Huskies, despite a seven save afternoon.

The Huskies will close out their regular season on the road next week with a pair of conference matchups.  UConn travels to Rutgers on Thursday, October 24^th for a 7pm start and concludes its regular season schedule against Memphis on Sunday at 1:00pm.
