SPARTANSBURG, S.C. – Despite scoring the first goal of the contest, the Liberty Flames fell for the first time in 2013, dropping a 4-1 decision to the Wofford Terriers, Wednesday afternoon at Snyder Field.

      Liberty suffers defeat for the first time this season, falling to 2-1.  In addition, the Flames allowed their first goal of the season, after not allowing one in their first two contests. Wofford moves to 1-3-1 on the year.

      After a scoreless opening 19 minutes, Liberty jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 19:21.  Midfielder Sachem Wilson scored his third goal of the year, taking a pass from Juan Nino and finding the top left-hand corner of the net to give the visiting Flames an advantage.

      However, that lead was short lived, as Wofford countered with a marker during the 24^th minute.  On a corner kick, defender Connor Davis headed the kick by midfielder Nestor Jaramillo into the top of the net for his third goal of the year, tying the contest at 1-1. 

      The goal was the first scored by a Liberty opponent this season.  The Flames had held their opponents without a goal for the first 203:54 of the 2013 campaign.

      The host Terriers took a 2-1 edge into intermission, scoring during the 44^th minute.  After defender Forest Lasso’s header off a corner kick was blocked by a Liberty defender, Wofford converted the ensuing corner kick opportunity to take an advantage. Lasso this time netted his first goal of the season, heading the kick into the top right-hander corner of the net for the lead.

      The Flames opened the second half with back-to-back shot attempts.  Forward Kyle Breitmeyer fired the first shot of the half in the 50^th minute, forcing a save by Terriers goalkeeper Joe Wichmann. Liberty midfielder Blessing Tahuona followed up the attempt with a shot of his own, which he pushed high.

      Wofford extended its advantage to 3-1 during the 66^th minute, when Jaramillo scored his first goal of the season.  The midfielder found the net with a shot from the left corner of the six-yard box to up the host’s lead.

      Less than four minutes later, the Terriers tallied the final goal of the contest. Lasso recorded his second goal of the contest, heading a throw in past Liberty goalkeeper Jeremy Lee for the 4-1 lead.

      Wofford held a 14-9 shot advantage and a 10-2 edge over Liberty in corner kicks during the game.

      Scott Sutarik played the first 45 minutes in goal for the Flames, making one save. Lee played the final 45 minutes between the posts for Liberty, recording one save.  Wichmann made two saves for Wofford, playing the entire 90 minutes.

      Liberty will next travel to Boiling Springs, N.C., for a match with the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs.  Match is time is 2 p.m. The contest with be the first Big South Conference match of the year for both teams.
