Marist Men's Soccer Set For Match With Siena

November 10, 2014

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – With postseason hopes still alive, the Marist men’s soccer team (7-6-4, 3-4-2) will travel to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Siena (9-7-2, 4-3-2) for its final regular season game on Wed. Nov. 5, at 2 p.m.

Postseason Implications

For the Red Foxes to earn a spot in the MAAC Championships, they will need a win on Wednesday and will also need a Monmouth loss to Saint Peter’s or a Canisius loss/draw to Niagara.

Last Time Out

The Red Foxes fell to MAAC foe Rider 2-0 at home on Senior Night.  Despite the loss, freshman goalkeeper Mark Rajovic (Katonah, N.Y.) made six saves for the Red Foxes, while senior MJ Stellwag (Newburgh, N.Y.) and freshman Brandon Curtis (Stony Point, N.Y.) each recorded three shots in the game.

Player to Watch

Senior forward Myles Ashong (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) leads the Red Foxes this season with four goals, eight points and has started all but one match.  Ashong had opportunities against Rider on Saturday night, totaling two shots, but was unable to find the back of the net.

Scouting Siena

The Saints are coming off a 1-1 draw against conference opponent Monmouth.  In their last four games, the Saints are 0-2-2.  A win on Wednesday secures them a spot in the MAAC Championships.  However, with a loss or draw, the Saints will need to wait for the results of the other MAAC matches.  Freshman forward Alexander Tejera has had a strong season for Siena thus far, leading the team in goals (6), assists (3), and points (15).

Looking Ahead

If the Red Foxes beat Siena and either Monmouth loses or Canisius loses/draws, Marist will begin play in the MAAC Championships on Sat., Nov. 8 at a location to be determined.
