There is plenty of talent throughout the levels of college soccer, and the first D2, D3, and NAIA recap of the season highlights the players who have dominated the start of the campaign.
Week in Consideration: August 29-September 3
NCAA DII Men’s Player of the Week: Cooper Mathews, Westmont
Freshman Cooper Mathews made an immediate impact for Westmont, starring in the Warriors' matchup with NCAA DI UC Santa Barbara. He scored one goal and assisted another in a narrow 4-3 loss, leading both teams in points and unsettling a squad that reached last year’s NCAA tournament.
NCAA DIII Men’s Player of the Week: Carver Tierney, Augsburg
When Augsburg landed Tierney as a transfer from Mercyhurst, the hope was that adding a player with Division I experience at two separate institutions would lead to outstanding results. The senior has immediately surpassed those expectations, tallying seven goals and one assist—contributing to eight of Augsburg's total goals—to lift the Auggies to a perfect 3- 0 start.
NAIA Men’s Player of the Week: Alejandro Gallardo, John Brown
Sophomore Alejandro Gallardo, last season’s conference Freshman of the Year, opened his second year for John Brown impressively. The Costa Rica native tallied two goals and two assists against Hesston, later notching another assist in a 4-0 win over Mission.
