Men’s Soccer Draws With Army West Point, 1-1

September 15, 2015

Bronx, N.Y. - (September 15, 2015) - The Fordham men’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the Army West Point Black Knights on Tuesday night at Jack Coffey Field.

The tie puts Fordham’s record at 0-3-2 this season, while Army West Point moved to 1-3-1.

The Rams struck first in the 28th minute on a beautiful set-up by the Loebe brothers.  Janos Loebe started the play with a through ball to Jannik Loebe on the right side.  He quickly crossed to an oncoming Ryan Cupolo, who one-timed it from 10 yards out for his first goal of the season.

Army West Point would have a couple of close calls to knot the game at one in the first half, the best of which came in the 40th minute.  Nick Williams got through the Fordham defense and chested the ball around Fordham goalkeeper Dan Miklos.  Williams then shot toward the open goal but Lars Zimmermann came across for the defender save.

Army West Point continued to press in the second half, forcing a pair of saves by Miklos in the 49th and 76th minute.  The Black Knights though finally found the tying goal with nine minutes left in regulation.  Shaban Abousaud headed a Tommy Jaeger corner kick right between the Fordham goalkeeper and a defender for his second goal of the season.

The game went into overtime with the Black Knights having the best opportunity in the 98th minute as off a corner kick a shot by Abousaud was cleared away by Vincenzo Zuccala at the left post, which allowed the game to finish, 1-1.

In goal, Miklos made five saves in his first career start for the Rams, while Chris Britt notched two saves for the Black Knights.

The Fordham men’s soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, September 19th, as the Rams travel to Fairfield University for a 7:00 PM match-up.
