Garden City, N.Y. – The men's soccer team hosted the #8 LIU-Post Pioneers in a renewed Division II rivalry game in front of 450 fans on Motamed Field earlier this evening. The visitors seemingly put the game away early after going up three goals to none within the first 27 minutes, but the Brown and Gold did not go away easily, getting two back before their surge was outlasted by the 90 minute mark.
 
Despite out-shooting the Brookeville based team in the first half, 13-6, the Pioneers were highly selective in the attempts they took, connecting on half of them. Johannes Forgaard put Post up 1-0 in the 11^th minute on a feed from Eivind Austboe. Less than two minutes later, Cemil Turna assisted Austboe for the second goal of the game. Austboe capped the three-goal run on an unassisted play in the 27^th minute.
 
Playing much of the second half in Post territory, Alejandro Penzini stepped up and got his team going with back-to-back scores to cut the deficit to one. Nicholas Costa sent in a low pass from the right side to connect with Penzini whose quick footwork redirected the ball to beat keeper Marco Jorgensen. Caelan Hueber was credited with Penzini's second goal in the 66^th minute.
 
"Hats off to LIU-Post, stated Head Coach Carlo Acquista after the game. "They're a very talented, organized team who are seasoned for great things. I am proud of my guys to come back from three goals down and make it a game for the fans."
 
Juan Aguiar accounted for six of the Adelphi's 22 shots and nearly connected on two of them while Diego Zuniga and Will Rezin each came dangerously close to netting the equalizer.
 
Adelphi's back line held LIU-Post to just 11 total shots and with the help of two athletic saves by freshman Sergio Reyes, defused any threat to keep the visitors at bay.
 
As time wound down, the Panthers had one last free kick with 8.5 seconds remaining but it was batted away in a sea of green jerseys.
 
Adelphi doubled up Post on shots, 22-11 and edged them on corners, 7-6. Jorgensen made six saves for the Pioneers while Reyes was credited with two.
 
"In these types of games, you learn a lot about yourself as a coach and your team," described Acquista. "I'm looking forward to playing Merrimack next week in our first Northeast-10 match."
 
The Panthers are back in action next Saturday, September 14 when they host the #17 Merrimack Warriors in their first Northeast-10 matchup of the season at 7pm.
