A sophomore putting on a finishing masterclass is the latest men’s college soccer Player of the Week.

SMU scored five goals in two victories this week, all courtesy of one man: Stephan Soghomonian. His impactful week began with a clinical brace in the 2-0 defeat of Central Arkansas, where the California native played 51 minutes as a substitute. Building on this performance, Soghomonian earned a start and delivered a hat trick to defeat Boston College 3-2 for three vital ACC points.

Men’s Team of the Week: October 13-October 19
GK: Francisco Ranieri, UAB - Ranieri delivered a career performance, making ten saves to lead a 2-1 upset at No. 22 North Carolina.
D: Abdel Talabi, Bryant – The stalwart center back anchored the defense for 90 minutes and scored in each clean sheet victory over Brown and Binghamton.
D: Vito Kreuzpaintner, Le Moyne - With 90 minutes played and the game winner to defeat Mercyhurst 1-0, the Dolphins defender delivered a noteworthy performance.
D: Florian Schutt, Iona University - In a nearly perfect week, the towering center back played all 90 in a 0-0 draw versus Siena, then scored and assisted in the 3-0 rout of Rider.
M: Joseph Umberto Picotto, Maryland – Picotto lived up to his No. 10 jersey, delivering back-to-back games with a goal and an assist in wins over No. 16 Rutgers and Ohio State.
M: Misei Yoshizawa, Clemson – Yoshizawa shined in a critical conference matchup, scoring twice in Clemson’s 3-0 victory over No. 5 Duke.
M: Zacharie Simmons, Howard - Recording two assists against Chicago State and then scoring a goal versus Saint Francis (Pa.), the sophomore was at his dynamic best to lead two crucial conference victories.
M: Arnau Vilamitjana, Pittsburgh - After playing 90 minutes in a grueling 0-0 draw with Denver, Vilamitjana still had enough left in the tank to bag a hat trick in the 4-2 defeat of Syracuse.
F: Stephan Soghomonian, SMU – Soghomonian was unstoppable, scoring all five goals for the Mustangs in two victories.
F: Drew Pedersen, Gonzaga - Pederson showed impressive fight this week, providing a goal and an assist in the 3-3 draw with Seattle, then recording a hat trick and another assist in the thrilling 5-4 loss to Oregon State.
F: Mario Carlos, Cal State Fullerton - Leading with class, Carlos scored once in a 2-1 victory over UC Riverside, then bagged a hat trick in a 5-2 victory over CSU Bakersfield.
