Mids Blank Howard, 3-0, For 11th Straight Wi

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navy women's soccer team (11-1-0) scored three goals in the first 26 minutes en route to defeating Howard (0-11-2), 3-0, on Monday evening at Greene Stadium. With the win, Navy extends the nation's longest active winning streak to 11 games.
 
"Our three goals were all great finishes tonight," head coach Carin Gabarra said. "We had a lot of ball movement and movement off the ball and had good possession. It was a good team effort. Now we are excited to begin Patriot League play on Friday. We've been building up to this all year and the games get more intense. We've been getting better and better and continuing to build confidence."
 
In just the fourth minute, senior midfielder Fallon Puppolo (Sankt Leon, Germany) served a corner kick into the box that was put on goal by sophomore Julie Schumacher (Plantation, Fla.). The intial shot was saved and then Schumacher slid the rebound to freshman Kaylie Davidson (Oceanside, Calif.), who finished off the scoring chance for her fourth goal of the year.
 
In the 25th minute, sophomore Kahra Kelty (Odenton, Md.) passed to sophomore forward Morgan Dankanich (Glenmoore, Pa.), who played a through ball to junior forward Ashlynn Soellner (Hollidaysburg, Pa.), who struck from 16 yards out for her ninth goal of the year.
 
Just one minute later Soellner returned the favor by sending Dankanich toward goal on a through ball that was finished for Dankanich's seventh goal of the season.
 
With the three-point effort, Soellner extends her career-high season scoring total to 21 points on nine goals and three assists. 
 
Junior goalkeepers Alexes Lopez-Shaw (Bothell, Wash.) and Kalli Schulz (Kenosha, Wis.) combined for Navy's fourth shutout of the season. Lopez-Shaw played the game's first 81 minutes while Schulz played the final nine minutes of the contest. Each keeper made one save.
 
Navy outshot the Bison, 28-5, including 19-3 in the first half.
 
The Mids improve to 3-0-0 in road games this season and now lead the all-time series against Howard, 8-0-0.
 
Navy's three goals equaled the team's per game average and with 36 goals on the year, Navy has already surpassed the 2011 team's season total goal output of 35 (in 22 games).
 
The Mids will open Patriot League play on Friday night at home against American (2-7-2). Navy was the 2011 Patriot League Tournament runner-up.
