MONMOUTH DEFEATS FDU 2-0 ON THE ROAD

September 12, 2014
TEANECK, N.J. - Monmouth University freshman forward Rachelle Ross (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) scored twice, as the Hawks registered their third straight road shutout victory behind a 2-0 win at Fairleigh Dickinson University on Friday night at University Stadium. Ross, who tallied her first-career mult-goal match, scored an unassisted goal in each half, as Monmouth improved to 4-2 on the year.

"Tonight was a solid win for us," stated head coach Krissy Turner. "To earn three shutouts on the road in a row is a terrific accomplishment. We created some good scoring opportunities but Rachelle put away two excellent chances from distance."

Monmouth, which has now won nine straight matches against the Knights, got on the board in the 8th minute as Ross drilled a shot into the far upper 90 from outside of the box for an early 1-0 advantage. The Hawks, who outshot the Knights 4-1 in the second half, doubled their lead to 2-0 when Ross intercepted an errant clearance by the FDU goalkeeper and lifted her third career goal into an empty net in the 65th minute.

The Hawks outshot the Knights 9-8 in the match, forcing Felicia Burr to make three saves. Nicole D'Agostino (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central/Pitt), who made a point-blank stop with 3:30 left in the first half, posted two saves, en route to her fourth clean sheet for the Hawks. MU also held an 8-4 edge in corner kick opportunities on the night.

Monmouth returns to action on Sunday, when the Hawks host Lafayette on Hesse Field on The Great Lawn at 6:00 p.m.
