MONMOUTH FALLS AT SETON HALL, 1-0
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The No. 19 Monmouth University men’s soccer team outshot intrastate foe Seton Hall, 14-7, but the Pirates defeated the Hawks, 1-0, Friday night on Owen T. Carroll Field. With the Hawks’ first loss of the season, Monmouth falls to 4-1-1. Meanwhile, the Pirates improve to 3-4-0.
Max Garcia scored the game-winning goal in the 18th minute, knocking in a George Velasquez pass through the box from close range. The Hawks fired off nine second-half shots, but couldn’t find the back of the net for the equalizer.
Alex Blackburn (Natick, Mass./Natick) made two saves in defeat, while his counterpart, Kevin Bonder also had two stops in earning the win. The teams were an even 3-3 in corner kick opportunities.
The Hawks return home to face the College of Charleston on Sunday. Kickoff from The Great Lawn is scheduled for 7 p.m.
