Mount Women’s Soccer Drops Match at Temple
Ambler, Pa. (August 24, 2014) – The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team fell behind early and was never able to recover in a 3-0 loss to Temple on the road at the Ambler Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Mount St. Mary's (0-2) was forced to play from behind after Temple (2-0) sprinted out to a 1-0 lead 1:40 into the game with a goal by Alyssa Kirk. Temple's Gina Ditaranto tacked on goals in the 26th and 52nd minutes to give the Owls the victory.
For the Mount, Rachel Bourne stopped four shots in the second half after Vicky Cocozzamade three first-half saves. Temple, which held a 34-3 advantage on shots, used two goalkeepers to pitch a shutout. Temple's starter, Shauni Kerkhoff, registered one save in the opening 81:31 with Emily Doherty finishing off the final 8:29.
On the offensive end, Brinley Watts, Geanna Donnelly and Kelsey Pressler fired shots for the Mount. For the Owls, Kayla Cunningham took a game-high seven shots with Paula Jurewicz and Kelly Farrell picking up five shots apiece.
Up next, Mount St. Mary's heads to Washington, D.C. on Thursday, Aug. 28, for a 4 p.m. game against American.
