NEW YORK, N.Y. – Henos Musie’s return to the lineup gave the Yale offense quite a spark. Musie, who had missed four games with an injury, scored twice as the Bulldogs played a 3-3 tie with Columbia at the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.

“It’s good to have him back,” said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. “He’s not 100 percent but he showed how important a player he is.”

Musie’s second goal of the game gave Yale a 3-1 lead midway through the second half, but Columbia scored twice in a 3:06 stretch to force overtime.

The Lions had a 3-2 edge in shots in the two, 10 minute extra periods.

“We did well to get a two-goal lead, but credit to Columbia. They really threw everything at us. We had to withstand a lot of pressure in the second half and overtime,” Tompkins said.

The Lions outshot the Bulldogs 11-3 in the second half.

Yale (4-9-2, 2-1-2 Ivy) grabbed the lead when Conner Lachenbruch scored off a corner kick at 28:44. Henry Albrecht and Henry Flugstad-Clarke were credited with assists on the play.

A little over a minute later, the Bulldogs struck again. Cody Wilkins sent a cross to Musie, who knocked it in at 29:50.

Columbia cut it to 2-1 on Jack Gagne’s goal early in the second half.

Musie, though, scored again off a free kick at 71:54 and it seemed the Bulldogs were back in control.

That changed in the final 10 minutes. Andrew Tinari scored on a blast from 20 yards out at 81:49, and a quick passing play led to Nicholas Pappacena’s goal at 84:57.

With eight points, Yale remains alive in the race for the Ivy title. Harvard (12 points) jumped into first place with a win over Dartmouth. Princeton and Penn both now have 10 points, while the Bulldogs are tied with Brown.

“We’re going to need a little help, but we are still in the fight,” Tompkins said.

Yale closes out the season by hosting Brown next Saturday and then travelling to Princeton on Nov. 16.
