The University of Nevada soccer team secured a spot in the 2013 Mountain West Soccer Tournament with a 2-1 win over Air Force Sunday afternoon at Mackay Stadium.

With the win, Nevada improves to (5-9-4, 3-5-1 MW) on the season, while Air Force drops to (2-12-2,  1-6-1) overall.

“It was a great team effort today to secure our place in the Mountain West tournament with the win and get the victory on Senior Day,” head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. “Our focus this weekend was on controlling our own destiny into playing in Albuquerque in two weeks. We’ll look to close out the season strong with a Governor’s Series match with UNLV next Friday.”

Nevada was the aggressor in the opening half, recording 11 shots to three for Air Force. Wolf Pack sophomore Alyissa deRonde nearly gave the team a goal in the opening minutes of the match, as her header attempt was kept out of the net by a diving save by the Falcons goalkeeper. Chelsea Fricke got off a header in the 32nd minute that almost found its mark, hitting the crossbar and bouncing away to an Air Force defender. The teams entered halftime even at 0-0.

Bobby Reilly opened up the second half with an assisted goal from deRonde for her fifth score of the season. Wolf Pack senior forward Kori Disarufino was tripped up on a move inside of the Falcons box in the 53rd minute, resulting in a penalty kick for Nevada. Disarufino stepped up to take the kick and sent in her third goal of the season to the lower right corner of the net for the 2-0 lead. The Falcons responded with an Ashley Greco goal to pull within one in the 61st minute. Nevada closed out the match for the 2-1 win in the team’s final home game of the season.

The Wolf Pack will close out the regular season on the road next Friday, traveling to UNLV for a Governor’s Series presented by NV Energy match at 5 p.m.
