Nevada falls to New Mexico, 3-2
The University of Nevada soccer team fell 3-2 to New Mexico Friday evening at the UNM Soccer Complex.
With the loss, Nevada drops to (4-8-3, 2-4 MW) on the season, while New Mexico improves to (7-8-1,5-1 MW).
Wolf Pack senior defender Chelsea Fricke got the team out to an early 1-0 lead, heading in a shot three minutes into the match for her second goal of the season. Lobos freshman Ruth Bruciaga answered back quickly with a goal within the next minute of play to even the match at 1-1. New Mexico reclaimed the lead at 2-1 in the 34th minute with a header of its own, as Maddie Irwin knocked in a ball from an assist by Lindsey Guice.
The Lobos extended  its lead to 3-1 on a goal by Dylann O’Connor in the 69th minute. Nevada fought back, scoring a goal by Chrisalyn Fonte with a strike in the box following a corner kick in the 76th minute to bring the score to 3-2.  New Mexico closed out the game on its way to a 3-2 win.
The Wolf Pack will travel to San Diego State for a match Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for noon at the SDSU Sports Deck.
