NO. 19 DAYTON BLANKS VALPO FOR NINTH WIN

September 30, 2013

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team looked for its ninth win of the season on Monday as the Flyers battled Valparaiso. Senior Abe Keller scored a pair of goals to keep Dayton undefeated on the year.

Keller put the Flyers up early with a converted penalty kick off a Valparaiso foul on sophomore Maik Schoonderwoerd in the box. Keller drove home his sixth goal of the season on a perfect shot to the upper-right corner of the goal.

With just a few minutes remaining in the first half, Keller added his second goal of the game off a free kick from 30 yards out. The Switzerland native curled in a bending shot to the near post that dropped neatly into the back of the net, just out of the Crusader goalkeeper's reach. It marked Keller's seventh goal of the season.

At the half, the Flyers led Valpo 2-0 thanks to Keller's brace. Dayton out-shot the visitors 7-2 overall and had five shots on goal. It was an aggressive half for both teams as each squad had eight fouls and a yellow card.

Dayton remained up by a pair in the second half as both defenses settled in. Neither team was able to get an uncontested shot on goal after an open first half.

After a scoreless second half, the Flyers took advantage of the two-goal lead to hold off the Crusaders for the win. With the victory, Dayton improved its record to 9-0-0 on the season.

Keller recorded his sixth and seventh goals of the season, both unassisted and off Valpo fouls. Goalkeeper Chris Froschauer recorded his fourth shutout of the season after totaling three more saves.

The Flyers (9-0-0) will play another home contest on Friday when they host Incarnate Word at 8 p.m. as part of a Dayton soccer doubleheader. The women begin the night against George Mason at 5:30 p.m.
