No. 7 Skyhawks play to scoreless draw at Colorado Mesa
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — No. 7 Fort Lewis (9-0-2 overall, 6-0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) played to a 0-0 draw at Colorado Mesa (5-4-2, 4-1-2) today.
“They’re a real good team,” said fifth-year FLC head coach Damian Clarke. “We were as good as we’ve been all year long in the first half, but just couldn’t score a goal.”
The Skyhawks owned slight advantages in shots (16-14) and shots on goal (7-5).
Sarah Schnetzler made seven saves for the Mavericks, while Amanda Raso stopped five shots for FLC. Raso posted her second complete game shutout of the season.
“At the end of the day, we were happy just to shut them out,” said Clarke. “It was a very good result for the defense.”
Clarke had high praise for the Mavericks, a team FLC beat 2-1 in the waning minutes of the game in Durango on Sept. 21.
“They’re a real good team,” he said. “They did very well to deal with us in the second half.”
Fort Lewis hits the road again next weekend when it travels to the Denver area for games at No. 20 Colorado Mines (7-1-1, 3-1-1) at 7 p.m. Friday and at No. 13 Metro State (9-1-0, 5-1-0) at noon next Sunday.
