ODU Loses To SIxth Seed Georgetown
Sixth Seed Georgetown Defeats ODU In NCAA Second Round, 3-0
WASHINGTON DC—The sixth seed Georgetown Hoyas (14-4-2) defeated Old Dominion (11-6-1) 3-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Shaw Field, advancing to the third round next week. It was the Monarchs first loss on the road this season in seven matches.
Georgetown, ranked seventh nationally, and last year's NCAA Finalists scored early in the first half with a goal by Cole Seiler with a shot from the far post on an assist from Brandon Allen and Tom Skelly. In the second half Bakie Goodman got a cross from Josh Turnley to make it 2-0. The final Hoya goal came with four minutes left by Alex Muyl from Brandon Allen.
ODU outshot the Hoyas, 20-9 overall while shots on goal were even at 6-6. ODU’s keeper Sean Stowe had three saves while Georgetown’s Tomas Gomez had six saves and his 13th shutout of the season.
ODU had advanced to its fourth straight NCAA tournament and 10th of the last 12 years. This was the Monarchs eighth second round NCAA tournament game under head coach Alan Dawson.
