ODU travels to UAB for 2nd of 3 road games

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s soccer (3-3-1) heads to Birmingham, Ala. for the second of three road games on Saturday, Sept. 24, to square off against the UAB Blazers (3-2-2). Match time is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on CUSA-TVfor fans to watch online.

The Monarchs enter Saturday’s match after falling in their first road match to VCU 5-1 in Richmond, Va. Tuesday, Sept. 20. CJ Taylor scored the lone Monarch goal, his first of the season, on an assist from Jimmy Filerman (2nd assist) in the sixth minute of action.

Eight different Monarchs have scored this season for a total of nine goals with Niko Klosterhalfen leading the way with two. Sebastian Hauret leads in points (6) with one goal and a team high four assists.

Alex Tiesenhausen has played 605:00 minutes in the net for the Monarchs while Christian Coulson earned his first collegiate minutes (45:00 min.) Tuesday at VCU. Tiesenhausen has collected a 1.64 goals against average (GAA) while recording 31 saves for a .738 save percentage.

UAB has had a week of rest leading up to Saturday’s match last playing on Sept. 17 against Marshall. The Blazers picked up a big 3-0 win for their third shutout of the season in their conference opener.

Seven athletes have recorded a goal for the Blazers led by Massimo Ferrin and Rami Dajani with two apiece. Henrique Sposito, Philip Makinde and David Valverde have each tallied an assist while the remaining six have been unassisted.

As a team UAB has held opponents to just five goals on the season. Joe Kuzminsky holds down the back line in net for UAB giving up the five goals for a 0.67 GAA and collecting 36 saves for a .868 save percentage.

After the match against UAB, Old Dominion has a week to prepare for Coastal Carolina who was ranked in preseason and held No. 5 Charlotte to just one goal on Sept. 13, in Charlotte, N.C.
