Otto's Game-Winner Lifts Rangers to 2-1 Win

October 3, 2014

Denver, Colorado: The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference once again proves each match-up in this league to be a battle to the finish.  The Regis University Ranger women’s soccer team came out on top defeating the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions 2-1 and moving to an overall record of 6-2-1 and 4-1 in the RMAC.

Regis came out strong from the beginning firing 12 shots at UCCS goalkeeper Grace Ramsden in the first half.  Junior forward Nicholette Sartori (Malabar, Florida) scored her first goal of the season in the 40th minute of play shooting a ball far post in hopes of beating the keeper, the ball bounced off the post and into the goal to move the Rangers ahead 1-0.

Shortly after in the 43rd minute of play the Mountain Lions answered with a goal of their own to even the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.  UC-Colorado Springs would find a little more offensive momentum at the start of the second half but it was their defense that kept the Rangers from finding the game-winning goal until the 80th minute of play when junior forward Sid Otto (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) found the goal Regis was searching for scoring her second goal of the season.  The ball came across the opening of the goal from freshman forward Mickie Piechowski (Boise, Idaho) when Otto struck the ball with her left foot into the back of the net.  Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Crump (Huntsville, Alabama) recorded all 90 minutes of action and made two saves, one in the first and the other in the second half.

The Rangers dominated the offensive stats outshooting the Mountain Lions 18-4 with seven on goal.  Head Coach J.B. Belzer would like to see, “A little more efficiency of shots on frame,” but overall was very pleased with the outcome of another hard fought RMAC battle.  “We keep winning by a goal which is nice, we’d like to be a little more efficient and get back to where we started at the beginning of the season with defending as a priority.”

Regis has one day off before hosting University of Colorado-Pueblo on the Regis Match Pitch on Sunday, October 5 at 1 p.m.  UC-Pueblo is currently 3-2-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the RMAC.
