YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (10/18/2017) -- It looked like the Titans were going to a second overtime, but senior Paige Roberts tallied her first career goal as the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team won an overtime thriller on the road at Youngstown State, 1-0, on Wednesday night.

With just four seconds left in the first overtime, Roberts was able to control a loose ball in a scrum just in front of the box and fired it past the Youngstown State keeper for the game-winner.

The Titans (4-11-1, 1-6-0 HL) dominated the action outshooting the Penguins (4-11-1, 0-7-0 HL), 19-7, but hit two crossbars and saw the YSU goalie record 10 saves on the night.

Junior Marina Manzo was credited with three saves and senior Rachel DeLuca took a game-high seven shots, hitting the crossbar twice early in the contest.

Detroit Mercy will return to action this Saturday, Oct. 21, as the Titans host Green Bay at 4 p.m., in a soccer doubleheader as the men welcome Milwaukee at 1 p.m.

First Half
  • The Titans came out aggressive and nearly had a marker as DeLuca hit the crossbar in the sixth minute of play.
  • Manzo denied a YSU chance at 13:43 and the Titans countered with DeLuca firing on net that was knocked away.
  • A corner kick ensured that did not result in a shot, but a little more than a minute later, DeLuca got the ball back again and lined up a shot that hit the crossbar for the second time.
  • Detroit Mercy had three shots in the 22nd and 23rd minute, but two were saved and another sailed high.
  • Manzo picked up her second save of the contest at 24:25.
  • Neither team had a shot in the last 20 minutes of the first half.

Second Half
  • The Titans took over the game outshooting the Penguins, 11-3.
  • DeLuca had another chance that was saved in the 47th minute and freshman Kelli Doyle's header at 58:52 was high.
  • Manzo's third save came in the 67th minute.
  • The Titans continued to apply the pressure on the keeper with four shots in a 2:22 span between 70:32 and 72:52.
  • Another flurry of shots came between 80:16 and 82:53, but two were saved, another was blocked and the last was high.
  • Youngstown State had two opportunities late, but neither shot was on net.

  • YSU had a corner kick at 91:08, but no shot came from that.
  • Junior Carly Fiorido's attempt was saved in the 96th minute.
  • The Penguins had two looks in the 98th and 99th minute, but one was wide and another hit a post.
  • The Titans goal was set up off a foul and the ball was sent into the box, knocked around a little and it came out to Roberts who booted it past the keeper to the right side of the net.

Game Notes
  • The Titans lead the all-time series, 19-1, and have 12 shutouts in those wins.
  • It was only the third career shot attempt for Roberts.
  • DeLuca now leads the team with 50 shots on the season.
  • Manzo recorded her fifth shutout of the season and now has 17 in her career, fourth in school history.
