Rosero, Crisafulli Claim MAAC Weekly Honors

September 26, 2016

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Siena Soccer captured two of the MAAC’s three weekly awards Monday. Senior striker Junior Rosero was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman midfielder Matt Crisafulli earned Rookie of the Week acclaim for the second time this season.

A native of West Islip, New York, Rosero earns MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in his Siena career. He factored in the scoring in each of the Saints’ three goals last week, totaling four points on a goal and two assists.

Rosero scored for the second straight match Wednesday, accounting for the lone Siena goal in a narrow 2-1 defeat vs. reigning Sun Belt Regular Season and Tournament Champion Hartwick. Then, on Saturday night, he served as the catalyst for Siena’s dramatic late come-from-behind 2-1 win at Atlantic-10 foe George Mason. Rosero assisted on both Siena goals, setting up sophomore captain J.C. Obregon’s game-tying tally in the 87th minute, and then served in Crisafulli for the game-winning golden goal less than five minutes later in overtime.

Crisafulli is the MAAC Rookie of the Week for the second time in three weeks, after capturing the honor for the first time Sept. 5. The Selkirk, New York product the most of his only match last week, coming off the bench to score the decisive tally just 80 seconds into overtime against the Patriots to help Siena end the non-conference portion of its schedule on a high note. Crisafulli has served as a spark off the Saints’ bench so far this fall, tying for the team lead with three goals.

Rosero, Crisafulli and Siena return to action Wednesday when they kick off the program’s 28th MAAC season against Fairfield on Siena Turf Field at 3 p.m.
