[RV] SMU forces 0-0 Draw Versus No. 21 UConn

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU defense held No. 21 Connecticut to 10 shots and only two on goal, as the [RV] SMU women's soccer team held the Huskies to a 0-0 draw at Westcott Field Thursday night. The Mustangs held UConn to five or fewer shots in each period, allowing only two total shots in two overtime periods.

SMU moves to 8-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in American Athletic Conference action, to remain tied for first in The American with Connecticut. UConn is now 10-2-1 overall, 2-0-1 in The American.

The SMU defense held U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team players Rachel Hill and Stephanie Ribeiro at bay all night, allowing the duo a combined five shots, with only one shot on goal. Entering the match, the two combined for 22 goals this season. Taylor BargTaylor JacksonHaley Thompson and Jessica Cooley all anchored the back line. Barg, Thompson and Cooley all clocked a full 110 minutes, while Jackson logged100 minutes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Catie Brown earned her second clean sheet of the season, recording two saves.

The SMU offense tallied 20 shots, with eight on goal. Thompson led the Mustangs with four shots and two on goal, while forward Vanessa Valadez managed three shots, two on frame.

SMU is next in action Sunday when it hosts Temple at Westcott Field. The match is set for 1 p.m. CT.
