Saints Record NCAA Leading Seventh Tie

October 14, 2017

Senior midfielder Marco Kloster scored his first collegiate goal as Siena Soccer battled Monmouth to a 1-1 draw on the Jersey Shore. The tie marked the third straight for the Saints which now lead the nation with seven on the season.

The teams registered 14 shots apiece in the evenly played affair, although Siena (2-4-7, 0-1-4) put nine of theirs on target as opposed to just four for Monmouth (4-7-2, 1-3-1). The Hawks harbored a 5-4 edge in corners.

Kloster opened the scoring in the 20th minute with his first career score. Sophomore captain Conor McGlynn found classmate Cristobal Toledo who fed Kloster who finished inside the near post.

But Monmouth would net the equalizer shortly thereafter in the 33rd minute. John Antunes connected with Donovan Pollock who headed in his first goal of the season as the match would ultimately head into the half knotted at 1-1.

The Saints put five shots on target in an active second half, but were unable to reclaim the lead as they went to overtime for the 10th time in 13 matches this season. The squads created three shots apiece in the extra sessions, but neither side was able to net the winner.

Senior goalkeeper Aleksa Radosavljevic made three saves for Siena which is now just two ties shy of the NCAA Division I single-season record of nine set on four different occasions. The Saints have five regular season matches remaining.

Bobby Edwards stopped eight shots for the Hawks.

Siena returns to action Wednesday when they host nemesis and two-time defending MAAC Tournament Champion Rider at 3 p.m. in Loudonville. The programs have squared off in the MAAC Semifinals in each of the previous two seasons.
