Burnaby, BC – The SFU Clan women’s soccer team couldn’t top Western Oregon this evening but did secure a draw, playing to a 1-1 tie with the Wolves.

Karm Jawandha (Delta, BC) looked to put the Clan up early as she got the first shot of the game for SFU in the fifth minute.  Brittney Rigtrup made the save on that attempt but in the 17th minute, Jawandha converted, beating Rigtrup for her second goal of the season to give the Clan a 1-0 lead.

Western Oregon took possession and threatened immediately, taking the ball down the field and putting a shot on net.  Amelia Ng was there to make the save though, keeping the Clan in the lead, 1-0.

SFU defended their lead for the rest of the half, taking a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
 
Early in the second half, it looked as though Western Oregon was going to tie it up.  The Wolves offence had a dangerous looking chance right in front of the Clan net, but Ng smothered the ball to maintain the 1-0 lead.

WOU kept on attacking and put another dangerous looking shot on goal.  This time it was Emma Cruickcshank (Maple Ridge, BC) whose kick deflected the ball out of harm’s way.

With just over 20 minutes remaining, the Wolves finally solved Ng.
 
WOU’s Lindsay Bauman put a shot wide left of the goal that was headed in by Kymberly Witmer to get the Wolves on the board and tie the game at one.

That was all the scoring that would take place this evening.  The rest of regulation and two overtime periods solved nothing, as the team’s played to a 1-1 tie in 110 minutes of action at Terry Fox Field.

“I thought we played well at times tonight but we didn’t play the full 90 minutes,” said Head Coach Shelley Howieson.  “The bounces didn't go our way and that's really been the story of our season.  I think we're starting to play more organized and we're starting to get those bounces.  It's a shame we only have two games left because I can see the team maturing and playing better soccer every time out.”

The Clan will head to Lacey, WA on Sunday for their final road game of the 2011 regular season.  Next Friday, they will return home for their final match at Terry Fox Field this season when they host the Western Washington Vikings at 7:00 PM.  Admission is free.
