Siena Defeat Jaspers in Championship Rematch

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer clinched the number two seed in the MAAC tournament in a rematch of last year's MAAC Championship and Senior Day. The Saints defeated Manhattan 4-0.

The victory marks the seventh MAAC win which matches the most conference wins in program history. In 2004, the Saints were 7-1-1. Siena scored four goals with seven assists against the Jaspers. With seven assists today, the Saints total 44 assists on the season which broke the program single-season assist record that was set last year (39).

Kelsey Horst opened up the scoring for Siena in the 32nd minute. It was a through ball from Amber Alfonzothat Horst won and tucked inside the right post. Horst's goal would be the game-winning goal for Siena.

Madi Belvito added a goal from Madison Vasquez and Casey Scott in the 41st minute for a 2-0 Saints lead.

Horst added another goal in the 47th minute. Tara Sobierajski landed the ball on the outside to Casey Scottwho crossed it from the left. Horst was able to tap the ball in for a 3-0 lead over Manhattan.

Amber Alfonzo closed out the scoring in the 60th minute after Hanna Longendyke passed it to Kelsey Horstwho crossed it from the left. Alfonzo tapped the ball in for the 4-0 shutout. 

With Horst's two goals and one assist she recorded a career-high five points, including the game-winning goal for Siena. Taylor Dorado now has four shutouts on the season. She recorded six saves for the Saints.

The Saints finish the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Canisius. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.

With the win the Saints clinched the #2 seed in the MAAC Tournament and a bye to the Semifinals. Siena will begin their MAAC Title defense in the semifinals against a to be determined opponent Friday, Nov. 4 in West Long Branch, New Jersey. Monmouth won their fourth consecutive regular season title and will be the tournament host.
