MARTIN, Tenn. – A goal in the first minute was all UT Martin needed to earn itself a victory over the visiting Morehead State soccer team on Friday evening. The 2-0 defeat lifted the Skyhawks to 7-5-3 overall and 4-1-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play, while MSU fell to 1-10-2 and 1-3-1 in league action.

"UT Martin deserved to win that game," Head Coach Warren Lipka said. "They played with more heart, passion and energy."

It only took the Skyhawks 29 seconds to stake themselves to the early lead when sophomore Alyssa Curtis found herself with the ball at the top of the 18-yard box. After establishing possession, Curtis sent a shot sailing over the head of MSU sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd for her third score of the 2012 campaign.

The Eagles were able to hold off UTM for the next 35 minutes, but the Skyhawk attack struck again late in the first period. This time, junior Abi Sanvee found the far post for her fourth goal of the season.

Strong defending in the second half kept the Eagles within two, but they could not put together the offensive surge necessary for the comeback.

UTM finished on top in the shot category, 14-8, with nine of its shots on frame.

"We just need to play better than that if we want to be competitive and make it to the conference tournament," Lipka added.

The Eagles are back in action on Sunday when they finish off their road trip at Southeast Missouri. Kick-off is slated for 2 p.m. ET. Live stats and live streaming links will be available via www.MSUEagles.com.
