Soccer Suffers 2-1 Defeat at Xavier
CINCINNATI, Ohio -- A pair of come-from-behind goals lifted Xavier to a 2-1 win over Morehead State on Sunday afternoon at the Xavier Soccer Complex. The Musketeers improved to 4-4-0 with the victory, while the Eagles dropped to 0-6-1.
Sophomore Elizabeth Tresnak led MSU with four shots, two on goal, and freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd had three saves.
The Eagles got things started in the sixth minute when freshman midfielder Samantha Matherly found the ball about six yards from goal - after several blocked shots - and placed it just under the outstretched arms of the Xavier keeper.
The Musketeers evened the score in the 39th minute on a back-post header from sophomore midfielder Margaret Woods. MSU outshot Xavier, 7-3, in the first half.
XU netted the game-winning goal in the 58th minute when freshman forward Erin McGauley beat Floyd one-on-one just inside the 18-yard box.
The Eagles are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Dayton, Ohio, to take on Wright State. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. ET.
