HANOVER, N.H - Freshman Sten Stray-Gundersen's (Frisco, Texas) first collegiate goal stood as the game-winner as the Dartmouth men's soccer team defeated Yale, 1-0, on Saturday night (Oct. 6) at Burnham Field.

In a typical Ivy League battle, Dartmouth (5-5-0, 1-1 Ivy League) weathered a late Yale push at the end of the game to pick up its second consecutive victory and to move back to .500 overall and in Ivy League action.

With the first half winding down, the Big Green made a push into the Yale offensive third and it paid off. Stray-Gundersen, who had just entered the game, connected with a beautiful ball from Brad Jacobson (Larchmont, N.Y.) in the box and put it behind Yale's Bobby Thalman for what was the eventual game-winner.

The game was a tale of two halves for both teams, Dartmouth seemed to control the run of play in the first half, while Yale (3-5-3, 0-1-1 Ivy League) seemed to come on in the second half.

The Big Green had some really good scoring opportunities in the first half and Andoni Georgiou (London, England) looked liked as if he was going to give Dartmouth the early lead with a shot that just barely sneaked over the crossbar at the 22:35 mark.

Sophomore midfielder Colin Heffron (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) controlled the Dartmouth offense with a team-best three shots, one on frame. In total, eight  different Big Green players posted shots.

Yale seemed to be on the offensive in the second half and really made the Dartmouth backline work. Goalkeeper Noah Cohen (Johannesburg, South Africa) made six saves, five in the second half, for his second shutout of the season.

The Bulldogs late charge included forcing Cohen to make three spectacular saves in the final eight minutes of action.  Jenner Fox forced Cohen to punch a ball out of the air at the 81:32 mark and Max McKiernan forced him to come out and make a point-blank save to preserve his clean score sheet.

Dartmouth will step out of league action when it travels to Boston College on Wednesday. The Big Green and Eagles will square off at 7 p.m.
