Junior Stuart Connects with Freshmen Akindele and Otto; Shuts Out Cougars 4-0

DENVER, Colo.:  Regis women's soccer advanced their record to 5-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the RMAC conference.  Freshmen Sade Akindele and Sidny Otto scored two goals apiece on the day, while junior Meghan Stuart picked up three assists.

The Ranger defense allowed only one shot from the Cougars in the second half of play.  Aside from the shot that went wide and high, junior Ellen Augsburger was not contested again.

Regis scored within the second minute of the match today after Stuart bested two defenders on the right side of the field, got to the edge of the 18 yard box and sent a cross towards the goal.  Otto was in front of the goal ready to send the pass straight through to the back of the net.

Stuart connected with Akindele in the 11th minute of the match for her second assist and the second Ranger goal.  Otto sent a long ball from midfield to Stuart, who beat her defender  yet again and got the cross off at the edge of the 18 yard box.  Akindele was waiting at the top of the 10 yard box, received the ball, turned and scored to the bottom right.

The Rangers would go up 3-0 over the Cougars before the half was out.  Akindele, from the top of the 18, sent the ball into Otto at the 10.  She sent the ball past the Cougar goalkeeper into the left side of the net.

Regis put on 11 shots of their 17 attempts in the first half.

"We had some very good performances today from Sade, Sid and Meghan," commented head coach JB Belzer.  "We allowed one shot all day, so full credit to our defenders and goalkeeping court."

"It was an important win today," he continued.  "Now we have to move on and focus on the two big matches we have coming up next week."

The last goal came with nine seconds left on the clock for the match.  Stuart received possession of the ball and sent a cross in to Akindele at the top of the 10 yard box.  Akindele kicked it up towards the goal, banking the ball off the crossbar and in to the Cougar netting.

The Rangers will play at home again Friday, September 28 to take on Adams State College at 1:30 PM during Regis University's Family Weekend.
