July 17, 2025

Alexandria Reds Midfielder Osi Onwudiwe has been named the TopDrawerSoccer.com 2025 NPSL Young Player of the Season.

“It’s a blessing to be recognized for such an award, especially being a young player on a new team,” Onwudiwe said. “I am grateful to God, my family, and the coaches at ASA for giving me the opportunity.”

Onwudiwe played in eight matches (five starts), scoring a total of six goals for the Reds.

"Osi has been a standout this season — a tireless attacker with relentless work rate and fearless confidence in 1v1 situations,” Alexandria Reds GM and Head Coach Jim Hogan said. “His commitment to improvement, eagerness to learn, and selfless attitude have made him an invaluable part of the Alexandria Reds program.  Osi’s growth is a true testament to his mindset and determination, and we’re excited to see where his drive takes him next year at Virginia Tech and beyond — because this is just the beginning."

Onwudiwe was the Gatorade 2024-2025 Player of the Year for Virginia.  He led Episcopal HS to a 14-3-3 record and a Virginia Independent School Athletic Association Division I state championship.  He tallied 20 goals and seven assists, scoring the game-winner against Cape Henry Collegiate School in the state final.  He earned a number of important awards, including VISAA Division I Player of the Year, Washington Post First Team All-Met, and United Soccer Coaches High School All-American honors.

He is slated to play for Virginia Tech starting this fall.

"Playing after his senior year of high school, Onwudiwe had a quality season with Alexandria in the attacking third,” TopDrawerSoccer.com Director of Content Travis Clark. “He finished the season with a hat-trick performance and found a way to impact games competing against older opposition.  Look for more from him this fall at Virginia Tech."
