September 9, 2019
Just as the rains arrived in Durham, so did another important Brianna Pinto strike.
The North Carolina midfielder's tally ensured the Tar Heels wouldn't play into overtime against LSU, securing a 1-0 win on Thursday at the Duke Nike Classic. That victory, plus a comfortable 8-0 defeat of UNLV on Sunday, pushed the ACC side to the No. 1 spot in this week's TDS Women's DI Top 25 rankings.
Santa Clara defeated previous No. 1 side UCLA on Thursday, opening up the door for the Tar Heels.
Stanford, Virginia, USC and the Bruins round out the top five.
