UAlbany Edges Saints
Miranda Badovinac scored the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute to lead two-time defending America East Champion UAlbany over Siena Women’s Soccer 2-1 at Casey Stadium. Freshman midfielder Deanna Lomino scored her first collegiate goal for the Saints in defeat.
All three goals were scored in less than a 10-minute span midway through the second half. Gina Bracamonte opened the scoring in the 62nd minute for UAlbany (2-3), when her blocked shot redirected into the goal.
But Siena (2-2) answered less than four minutes later. Off a corner kick from senior captain Michele Tremblay, the Saints got three shots off in traffic in front. The first two attempts – by Lomino and sophomore back Hanna Longendyke – were blocked, but the third time was the charm as Lomino blasted home the rebound.
However, the Great Danes would have the final say less than six minutes later when Badovinac finished the long service from Morgan Loder to put UAlbany back on top.
The Great Danes held a 13-10 edge in shots, while both teams attempted three corners apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Dorado made four saves for Siena which still holds a 7-3-2 advantage in the series over their crosstown rivals since UAlbany joined the Division I ranks.
The Saints return to action Wednesday when they host Vermont for their second and final non-conference match at Siena Turf Field at 5 p.m.
