LA JOLLA, Calif. - LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona women’s soccer teams traded goals in each half in quick succession and ultimately settled for a 2-2 draw through two overtimes in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match Sunday at Triton Soccer Stadium.

With the result, UCSD moved to 5-5-4 overall and 4-4-4 in the CCAA. Cal Poly Pomona is 5-4-5 overall and 3-4-5 in league play following a program-record eighth overtime game (2-1-5). The third-place Tritons stay two points ahead of the Broncos in the CCAA South Division standings with four regular-season matches remaining. The teams will meet again in Pomona on Friday night, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m.

Jamie Benedetto opened the scoring at 27:53, tapping in from close range after fellow freshman Kristen Sampietro’s left-sided free kick had been flicked on toward the back post by the head of senior Rachel Leslie (Santee/West Hills HS). It was Benedetto’s fourth goal of 2013, and second assists for both her teammates.

Cal Poly Pomona tied it less than a minute and a half later, at 29:09, as Kristin Mihara’s corner kick was nodded just barely across the goal line by Megan Kisslan for her first of 2013 and second of her career.

Following the intermission, it was the Broncos grabbing their first lead at 67:49. The visitors capitalized on a defensive turnover, with Arika Ontiveros feeding Samantha Stiles for a looping shot over Triton goalkeeper Kelcie Brodsky and into the upper far corner. The strike marked a second goal on the season for Stiles.

Once again, the answer did not wait long to come, as within two minutes, it was 2-2. At 69:39, freshman right back Kylee Southwell played an exploratory ball from deep on the right wing, toward the Bronco penalty area. Junior All-American midfielder Cassie Callahan (Coronado/Coronado HS) and Cal Poly Pomona goalkeeper Sarah Rohman both converged on the landing spot, but Callahan won the race, heading the ball over her opponent and into the back of the net. Callahan’s team-leading sixth gives her 19 for her career, with no fewer than nine of them via header.

Southwell earned credit for her first collegiate assist.

Both teams had opportunities to nab a decider over the two 10-minute overtime sessions, but neither could capitalize before finally sharing the spoils on the day.

Brodsky had seven saves, while Rohman wound up with six. UCSD outshot CPP, 17-15.

A season-long six-match homestand concludes next weekend against a pair of North Division foes in San Francisco State (Oct. 25, 4:30 p.m.) and Cal State Monterey Bay (Oct. 27, 11:30 a.m.).

Triton Notes: UCSD leads the all-time series, 32-10-4, and had swept the two-game season series in each of the past four years ... UCSD had also won seven straight meetings at Triton Soccer Stadium since a 4-3 loss in 2004, keeping the Broncos scoreless over 234:14 prior to Sunday’s strike by Kisslan.
